My 8-Week Challenge: No Alcohol, No Junk Food, and Daily Movement
I recently made the decision to challenge myself for 8 weeks no alcohol, no junk food, and daily movement. Not to lose weight, not to impress anyone else, but simply to see how I feel and what improvements happen to my body and mind when I strip away some of the habits I usually lean on.
To be honest, I’m a little nervous. I drink often during the week, and I find a lot of comfort in snacking, so I know this won’t be easy. But part of why I want to do this is because it feels uncomfortable. Growth always lives just on the other side of discomfort.
Here are some of the strategies I’m planning to lean on to stay focused, even when things get tough:
1. Have Substitutes Ready
When the craving hits, it’s not enough to just say “no.” I’ll be swapping alcohol for sparkling water with lime, herbal teas, or mocktails. For junk food, I’m keeping fruit, roasted nuts, and air-popped popcorn close by. The key is to replace, not just remove.
2. Create a “Why” List
On the days when my willpower feels weak, I’ll come back to my “why.” I want clearer skin, more energy, deeper sleep, and to prove to myself that I can keep a promise I made to me. Keeping this list on my phone will help me recenter when temptation sneaks in.
3. Move in Ways I Enjoy
Daily movement doesn’t always mean an intense workout. Some days it will be a walk, Pilates at home, or stretching before bed. The point is consistency, not perfection.
4. Accountability Matters
I’m sharing this publicly because accountability is powerful. When you tell people what you’re working on, you’re more likely to follow through. Even if no one else is watching, I know I’ll want to show up for the version of me who had the courage to start.
5. Celebrate Small Wins
Every week I make it through without alcohol or junk food and with daily movement deserves celebration whether that’s a self-care ritual, a long bath, or treating myself to a new workout outfit.
This 8-week challenge is less about restriction and more about discovery. I’m curious to see how my body and mind shift when I give myself the gift of discipline. If you’ve ever thought about cutting back or resetting your habits, maybe this is your sign to join me.
Here’s to 8 weeks of clarity, energy, and showing ourselves what we’re really capable of.
